IT’S CROP HUNGER WALK TIME
The 39th Annual Columbus CROP Hunger Walk will take place on Sunday, October 9 th in the Audubon Metro Park. The oldest charity walk in Columbus, CROP supports hunger related relief efforts all over the world, and 25% of all funds raised support local hunger relief agencies, including our own Largest Table. Church World Service CROP has the broad support and participation of more than 35 denominations and agencies and has raised over 710 million dollars, over $4 million here in Columbus, for its work.
This year’s focus is again on training and equipping families to raise their own gardens to feed themselves and have excess produce to sell at market. $15 provides a starter agricultural kit, training, seeds and tools. Check out the bulletin board in the education wing for more information on hunger projects supported by CROP.
One designated person will register our team between 12:00 noon and 2:30 PM on October 9th and walkers can start immediately, on either the one mile or 5K route in the park (maps available at the pavilion). The team does not have to walk together, but a team picture will be taken before we leave the church. Wear your purple shirts or a CROP T-shirt.
The need is great. Take a look at a bottle of water. A well-nourished five-year-old has an arm the size of the bottle. The size of a malnourished five year old is the size of the bottle neck. YOU CAN HELP! Everyone in the congregation is encouraged to help support this very worthy cause in some way. There are three ways to participate:
THANK YOU for your whole-hearted support of this important effort.

YOU CAN HELP! Everyone in the congregation is encouraged to help support this very worthy cause in some way. There are three ways to participate:
- Walk, if you are able, rock in a rocking chair during worship on October 9th, or roll in a mobile chair. Lunch will be available for all walkers in the fellowship hall immediately after worship, before the walk. (If you are unable to walk the day of the walkathon you may walk on another day at a place of your choosing). You can sign up by accepting a sponsorship sheet in the welcome center (narthex). Everyone who signs up to participate will be registered online, receive your own website, and are encouraged to use it to accept online donations/sponsorships. Anyone who raises $150 online by September 25th earns a CROP T-shirt. So message all your friends and family by e-mail, on Facebook, or however to get your website out there and solicit for this cause.
- Sponsor at least one walker or our team if you can’t walk, regardless of how much or how little you are able to give.
- Give your donation (cash or check) to a walker at church. (Checks should be made out to CWS/CROP)
- Accept a lunch bag with a CROP sticker on it from a volunteer in the welcome center, or take a sticker to place on a soup or vegetable can. Throw in your loose change and bring it to church on October 9th.
- Donate online with a credit card to support an individual or to support our team. Go to our Columbus website, http://www.crophungerwalk.org/columbusoh, click on “Donate”, and follow the prompts.
- Check with your employer (former, if retired) to see whether they will match your donation.
THANK YOU for your whole-hearted support of this important effort.
